In Luke 10:38–42, we meet two sisters who approach their faith differently. Martha is active but that doesn’t mean Mary is passive. Mary is actively listening to Jesus. Her focus is on being with Jesus while Martha’s focus is on serving Jesus. Serving goes a lot better when we sit with Jesus first. Then we can serve out of the overflow of our hearts (Luke 6:45, John 4:14).
Sovereign Lord, teach us how to wait on you and how to be with you. Fill us up to overflowing in the process so when we serve, it’s your love, your character, and your spirit at work in our lives that people see and are drawn to. May your kingdom come and your will be done.
Psalm 37:7: Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!
